Al Pacino was born on April 25, 1940 in East Harlem, New York, NY, USA. He was born as Alfredo James Pacino and well known as Sonny. His father, Salvatore Pacino was insurance salesman and mother, Rose Pacino was a housewife (died in 1962). His parents divorced when he was just two years old. Al Pacino was raised as Catholic but now he is agnostic.

Al Pacino studied at te High School of the Performing Arts dropout and after that he studied acting at the Actors Studio and the Herbert Berghof Studio, New York. Al Pacino has a production company called Chal Productions.

In 1997, Al Pacino engaged with actress Beverly D'Angelo (born on November 15, 1954). Together they have a twin, a son, Anton James a daughter, Olivia Rose (born in January 2001). Al Pacino has a daughter, Julie Marie (born in 1989) by Jan Tarrant who was a acting teacher.

In 1966, Pacino studied under coach Lee Strasberg and he gave him a chance in "The Indian Wants the Bronx". Al Pacino won an Obie award for his stage work in "The Indian Wants the Bronx" and a Tony award for "Does the Tiger Wear a Necktie?". This was the big start for Al Pacino.

In 1969, Al Pacino's first movie, "Me, Natalie" was released. Fred Coe was the director of this movie. In this movie, Al Pacino played a role of Tony. He won the Honorary Award for this movie. In 1974, "The Godfather Part II" was released in which he played a role of Michael Corleone. For this character, he was nominated as Best Actor in a Leading Role. In 1990, the third part of this movie, "The Godfather Part III" was released.

In January 1961, Al Pacino was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon. But he got out of it by telling the police that they were doing an acting exercise.

On October 16 1997, Al Pacino received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and was ranked #4 in Empire (UK) magazine's "The Top 100 Movie Stars of All Time" list. Entertainment Weekly voted Al Pacino as the 41st Greatest Movie Star of all time.
